Household organic waste remains an inadequately addressed issue in Cisumur Village, Gandrungmangu District, Cilacap Regency, due to low resident awareness regarding waste sorting and the limited reach of waste bank services, which are currently effective in only one of the village's six hamlets. This article reports on the implementation of an education and training program for kitchen-based Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot cultivation, conducted by the INSIMA Majenang Berdampak Batch XVI Community Service (KKN) team. The program employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach comprising four stages—planning, action, observation, and reflection preceded by a mapping of human, natural, and cultural resources. Farmer groups were designated as the program's "starter" groups, given that the majority of residents are farmers and these groups already possess established, trusted forums for regular meetings. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation during the initial socialization phase. The first stage of education was conducted via farmer group forums, covering the concept of organic waste bioconversion, the description and life cycle of BSF maggots, and an overview of the benefits and cultivation procedures. Results demonstrated high levels of participation and enthusiasm among farmer group members—reflected in active attendance at socialization sessions and numerous inquiries regarding potential savings on livestock feed and agricultural fertilizer, indicating a positive initial reception of the program. These findings serve as the foundation for the subsequent stages of technical training and maggot starter distribution, while also confirming that a tiered educational approach leveraging established social institutions
